Google celebrated the 161st birthday of bacteriologist Julius Richard Petri today with a Google Doodle.

Petri was working in a Berlin hospital in the 1870s when he made his discovery. He was an assistant to Robert Koch - the father of modern bacteriology - at the time. The interactive doodle has the letters of the word 'Google' replaced with petri dishes
